After 13 years of civil war, the opposition forces have declared the end of President Bashar al-Assad’s rule.
The opposition said Assad, who was leader for 24 years. has left the capital, Damascus.
It comes just hours after fighters entered Damascus, and said they had taken over the city’s airport and the state TV building.
The opposition is expected to broadcast their first statement to Syrians on state TV.
Syria’s Prime Minister said his government is ready to hand over power to any leadership chosen by the people.
Sawsan Abou Zainedin, CEO of Madaniya, a Syrian-led civil society organisation, says there is an “overwhelming sense of joy of overdue justice that Syrians are feeling everywhere around the world”.
